When looking at frame measurements, you'll typically see three numbers, like 49-22-150, which can be referred to as 'a-b-c'. A small rectangle often separates 'a' and 'b', making them easier to identify.
- 'a' represents the lens diameter, which is the width of the lens at its widest point (measured in millimeters).
- 'b' is the bridge width, the distance between the two lenses, where the frame sits on your nose. This is crucial for a proper fit.
- 'c' is the temple length, or the length of the arms on your glasses.
To find a similar fit, simply match the measurements of 'a' and 'b' when choosing your new glasses.
To measure your face for a proper fit, you only need a ruler:
1. Stand in front of a mirror and align the ruler with your temples.
2. Measure the distance between your temples.
3. Convert it to millimeters.
Now that you have your face measurement, calculate the total frame width by adding the lens widths (2 x 'a') and the bridge width ('b'). In our case (2×49)+22 =98+22= 120mm.
