When purchasing eyewear online, selecting the right frame size is key to ensuring a comfortable fit. The process is straightforward, and it begins with understanding the measurements of a pair of glasses you already own and find comfortable.
Typically, the frame size of your glasses can be found printed on the inside of the temple (also known as the arm of the glasses). This size is usually represented by three numbers separated by dashes, such as 49-22-150. These numbers correspond to the following parts of the frame:
1. Lens Width
2. Bridge Width
3. Temple Length
In some cases, a fourth number may be included, indicating the lens height. All of these measurements are in millimeters.
1. Lens Width 49 ☐ 22 150
This is the measurement of the horizontal width of each lens at its widest point. It is also called "eye size." Lens widths typically range from 40 mm to 60 mm.
2. Bridge Width 49 ☐ 22 150
This refers to the space between the two lenses, where the frames rest on your nose. The bridge width usually ranges from 14 mm to 24 mm.
3. Temple Length 49 ☐ 22 150
The temple (or arm) length is the distance from the hinge to the tip of the arm, including the curved part that rests behind your ear. Temple lengths typically range from 120 mm to 150 mm.
4. Lens Height (if applicable)
This is the vertical measurement of each lens, taken at the widest part of the lens inside the frame. Lens height is particularly important when considering bifocal or progressive lenses.
By reviewing these key measurements, you can easily determine the ideal frame size for your next pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses.
